Tip

If your children have an FASD, keep their rooms simple. Do not have a lot of posters, toys, or extra furniture, as they will overstimulate the children.

Initiatives

Initiatives

The FASD Center engages in numerous initiatives to achieve its goals of advancing the field and promoting comprehensive systems of care. Activities include:

Native Initiative
The Native Initiative addresses FASD in American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian populations. It uses the strengths of these Native communities to spread the message about FASD in ways that are culturally sensitive and meaningful.

Building FASD State Systems Meetings
These BFSS meetings are designed to facilitate the creation and enhancement of comprehensive systems of care for FASD at the State level.

Partnership to Prevent FASD
The goal of the Partnership is to unite communities nationwide in a public health response to prevent FASD.

FASD Prevention and Diagnosis and Intervention Initiatives
The FASD initiatives are intended to prevent FASD or to diagnose and provide interventions to those with an FASD. The initiatives are funded through 23 subcontracts and provided training and support by the FASD Center for Excellence.

Town Hall Meetings
The FASD Center convened Town Hall meetings to learn more about the issues and concerns of individuals with an FASD, caregivers and families, professionals, and other interested individuals.

Hope for Women in Recovery Summits
Through its summits for women in recovery, the FASD Center raises awareness of FASD among women in treatment for substance abuse.

FASD Awareness Day
Every year on September 9, communities throughout the United States and throughout the world observe FASD Awareness Day.
