Alcohol Focus Scotland

Alcohol Focus Scotland is committed to improving the quality of life in Scotland by changing the country's drinking culture and promoting responsible drinking behavior. Alcohol problems are estimated to cost Scotland an £2.25 billion per year in federal funds, social work, police, emergency services, and the wider economic and human costs. Alcohol Focus’ work involves providing information and training on alcohol issues, raising awareness of alcohol-related problems, and working to influence national alcohol policy.

In addition:

  • The Chief Medical Officer in Scotland recommends that women avoid drinking alcohol during pregnancy. The Scottish Government’s official site has provided an overview of the measures proposed to reduce alcohol-related harm in that country: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2008/06/16084348/9
