  • In 2007, Finnish leaders passed a Private Member’s bill in Parliament for mandatory warning labels on all bottles of alcohol about the dangers of drinking while pregnant. Labels will be required beginning in 2009.

  • Helsinki, Finland was one of four sites (along with Cape Town, South Africa; Buffalo, New York; and San Diego, California) that participated in a study to analyze patients with FAS and a control group, in order to identify unique facial features. The study was published in 2007 in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
