Finland

In 2007, Finnish leaders passed a Private Member’s bill in Parliament for mandatory warning labels on all bottles of alcohol about the dangers of drinking while pregnant. Labels will be required beginning in 2009.
Helsinki, Finland was one of four sites (along with Cape Town, South Africa; Buffalo, New York; and San Diego, California) that participated in a study to analyze patients with FAS and a control group, in order to identify unique facial features. The study was published in 2007 in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
